I distinctly remember as a kid when my friends were learning the words to the newest Backstreet Boys CD, I was wearing out my copy of the bluegrass-folk album Appalachian Journey by my childhood heroes Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Mark OβConnor. My early musical influences ranged from an innate love of bluegrass and Celtic music to a years-long obsession with jazz. Later on I found myself deeply fascinated with Americana, minimalism, and world music (and thankfully I did come around to the Backstreet Boys, even if I was a little late to the game). All of my musical influences and passions eventually led me to the genre of film, where I could freely explore and play with all of the sounds and styles that excite and inspire me.
My passion as a composer has always been grounded in the power of storytelling.
While my influences are diverse, my aim as a film composer is singular - to connect people, to tell important stories, and to offer humanity a deep and meaningful shared experience through the dynamic and inclusive medium of film.
Whether Iβm writing for film, television, or the concert hall, I bring with me a diverse musical understanding with story and emotion at the heart of everything I do.
A native of Iowa, I moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and have since written and conducted original scores for a number of film projects by award-winning directors as well as written and orchestrated on countless film, television, animation, and trailer projects.
